Meta’s Imagine Me feature launches in India: Use AI to create your own photos
Meta has finally rolled out its much-awaited AI feature “Imagine Me” in India. Previously limited to the US and a few other countries, the tool is now accessible to Indian users across multiple platforms. With this, Meta takes another significant step in making AI-driven creativity mainstream — allowing users to generate imaginative and personalized photos using just a text description.
What is the Imagine Me feature?
“Imagine Me” is a creative feature under Meta AI that allows users to generate AI-based images of themselves. All it requires is a brief setup using your facial data, after which you can see yourself in a variety of fictional styles and imaginative situations — such as a superhero, a traveler from the future, or even a mythological character.
How does Imagine Me work?
The tool analyzes your face using AI and then generates a version of your photo based on the description you provide. To activate it, users need to type “Imagine me as…” followed by a description. Within seconds, Meta AI presents a stylized image based on that prompt. The more accurate and vivid your description is, the more creative the result will be.
Where is it available?
Imagine Me is currently available through Meta AI’s chat interface, and can be used on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. As of now, it’s available on Android devices, though Meta hasn’t yet confirmed its release for iOS.
How to use Imagine Me?
To begin, go to Meta AI chat and type “Imagine me as”. A small pop-up will appear asking for permission to access and use your face data. Once granted, the system will take a few reference photos from different angles. After the setup is done, you can return to the chat and use the same prompt with different scenarios — such as “Imagine me as a Bollywood actor” or “Imagine me as a space explorer”.
Limitations and restrictions
Since the tool uses your face data, you cannot use it to generate images of others. Also, the setup process is a one-time task and applies to only one individual per account. Meta has implemented these checks to avoid misuse or identity manipulation.
Not too real, and that’s intentional
Images generated by Imagine Me don’t look hyper-realistic, and that’s by design. This helps avoid confusion or deception, ensuring users and viewers understand that these are AI-generated, fictional representations and not real photographs.
