New MediaTek Dimensity 9500s and 8500 Chips Aim to Transform Premium Smartphone Performance

Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek has expanded its Dimensity lineup with the launch of two new processors aimed at powering the next generation of premium and flagship Android smartphones. The newly announced Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500 chipsets promise a combination of performance, energy efficiency, advanced AI support, and upgraded graphics capabilities. This announcement reinforces MediaTek’s strategy to compete aggressively in the high-end mobile chipset market against rivals like Qualcomm and Samsung.

Dimensity 9500s: Premium Performance and AI Power

The Dimensity 9500s is positioned as a high-performance chipset built with an advanced 3nm manufacturing process and an All Big Core CPU architecture. It features a powerful octa-core setup, including a leading Cortex-X925 ultra core, multiple high-performance cores, and efficient performance cores aimed at delivering a strong balance of speed and energy efficiency.

Graphics performance is handled by the Immortalis-G925 GPU, supporting features like HDR gaming and ray tracing, alongside adaptive game technologies designed to optimize frame stability and power use during extended gaming sessions. The chipset also incorporates enhanced camera and imaging support through MediaTek’s Imagiq image processor, enabling 8K Dolby Vision HDR video recording and real-time motion tracking.

Connectivity for the Dimensity 9500s includes a 5G Release-17 modem capable of carrier aggregation and ultra-fast download speeds, alongside advanced energy-saving technologies and extended wireless range support.

Dimensity 8500: Strong Mid-Tier to Premium Option

Alongside its flagship-class sibling, MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 8500, a chipset manufactured on a 4nm process and focused on delivering excellent performance efficiency for premium-tier devices. It also adopts an All Big Core CPU layout with eight Cortex-A725 cores, delivering notable improvements in processing power over previous generations.

Graphics duties are handled by the Mali-G720 GPU, offering enhanced visual performance with up to around 25 % increase in peak graphics power, while reducing overall energy consumption. The Dimensity 8500 also supports ray tracing in mobile games, improved memory bandwidth, and AI features like large language model execution and enhanced photography support.

Advanced Capabilities and Features

Both new chipsets emphasize on-device AI with powerful neural processing units (NPUs), enabling capabilities such as generative reasoning, image generation, smart camera enhancements, and efficient AI processing without relying on cloud computation.

MediaTek is positioning these SoCs not only for raw performance but also for enhanced connectivity, battery efficiency, and next-level mobile gaming, making them suitable for a wide range of premium Android devices expected later this year.

Market Impact and Expectations

The introduction of the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500 reflects MediaTek’s continued push into the high-end chipset segment — an area that has been traditionally dominated by established competitors. These new processors are expected to power upcoming smartphones from major brands, potentially including members of the Redmi Turbo 5 Max family and other flagship models slated for 2026 launches.
