Reliance Jio has made a name for itself in the Indian market with affordable products. Jio’s cheap phones are in great demand and now the company wants to create a stir in the laptop market. It may soon launch a ‘cheap’ Jio Cloud Laptop. This has been said in a report quoting a senior official of the company. Remember that earlier this year, Jio launched a cheap laptop ‘JioBook’ with 4G connectivity. It comes in the category of less than Rs 20 thousand for Rs 16,499.
The Economic Times report claims that Jio is working on launching a new cloud PC in the Indian market. This would be a ‘dumb terminal’ laptop. The processing and storage functions of the laptop will be based on the cloud, possibly on Jio Cloud infrastructure. With this facility, there will be no need to install any expensive hardware in the laptop and Jio will be able to keep the price of its laptop low.
One thing to remember here is that in a cloud-based computer, internet connectivity is always required for storage, processor, and other functions. The price of a Jio Cloud laptop is expected to be less than Rs 15 thousand. According to the report, the company can offer monthly subscriptions, so that users can easily meet their needs like storage and processing power. What will be the subscription plans is not finalized yet. The report quoted the source as saying that the price of the laptop will depend on its hardware, memory, processing power, processor etc.
The report says that the company is in talks with big PC players like Acer, Lenovo, and HP. It is possible that manufacturing will be done by these players only. The beauty of Jio Cloud PC will be that many people will be able to use one laptop. Jio’s cloud laptop can run on many platforms other than Windows. There is no information yet regarding the launch of Jio Cloud Laptop. More details related to this may come in the next few days.
