Reliance Jio preparing to launch a laptop for Rs 15,000
Reliance Jio, one of the big telecom companies, has also launched mobiles and laptops in the budget segment. In July this year, the company introduced its second JioBook laptop. Its price was Rs 16,499. Reliance Jio may soon launch a Clout laptop for around Rs 15,000.
According to a media report, the company is in talks with big manufacturers like HP, Acer, and Lenovo for this laptop. Quoting a senior executive of Reliance Jio, it has been told in this report that this laptop will be a ‘dumb terminal’ and all its processing and storage functions will be on Jio Cloud infrastructure.
This will reduce the need for expensive hardware and the cost of laptops can be reduced. However, a cloud-based computer will need a constant Internet connection for storage, processing, and other functions.
In this report, a senior executive of Jio has said, “The cost of a laptop depends on its hardware like memory, processing power, and chipset. The higher capacity of the hardware increases the cost as well as the battery power. We remove all these. And the entire processing of the laptop will be done on the back end in Jio Cloud.” Monthly cloud subscriptions can also be bundled with this laptop.
This will be similar to Apple’s iCloud or Google One subscription. However, the pricing for Reliance Jio’s cloud membership will be decided later. It has been told in this report that this laptop is being tested on an HP Chromebook.
The scope of service of Jio AirFiber, an internet service based on Reliance Jio’s 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), is also being expanded. It has also been launched in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. Jio AirFiber reaches 115 cities. The installation charge for this is Rs 1,000.
However, if the annual plan of this service is taken, the installation charge can be waived by the company. Jio AirFiber plans start at Rs 599 (excluding GST) per month. It provides speed up to 30 Mbps and unlimited download. In this, users are also given the option to take six-month or annual plan.
